How To Use A Planner To Become More Productive

Your plans are unique to you, you’ve got plenty to do and probably not enough hours in the day to get it done. Have you ever thought about building your own planner?

Most planners don’t come with a manual or instructions and they are filled with sections for annual, monthly, weekly, and daily planning.

So how do you make those pages work to your advantage?

In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to use a planner to effectively maximize your time and become productive.

1.  USE YOUR PLANNER EVERY DAY

Take 5 or 10 minutes every evening to go over your tasks for the next day. That refreshes in your mind what needs to be done, making it less likely for you to forget about appointments, etc.

It doesn’t matter which brand or type of planner you own. Get in the habit of using it every day.

It helps to buy a planner that is small enough to fit in your bag but large enough to write down everything you need to record. For that reason A5 sized planners are my favorite.

2. Use a Single Planner for Everything

It’s easiest to keep it all in one place, so you don’t have to consult multiple planners or calendars.

3. be specific with your steps

When you are planning for your day, in your daily page, be sure to be specific in your steps. Instead of “make phone calls”, instead write down “call Susie and schedule lunch”. It’s more likely that you will complete your tasks if you know exactly what you are getting into! It also helps you figure out how much time you need to finish your task.

4. Keep your planner with you

The last tip for using a planner is to keep your planner with you! It is impossible to plan consistently if your planner is sitting on the coffee table waiting for you to open it up.

Keeping your planner in a bag or at home means that you’ll have to take time out of your day to find a planner substitute (usually sticky notes) and then you have to keep up with those items to transfer to your planner later.

If you’re like me and feel lost without a planner, it may be time to find more balance in your life. There are many different types of planners available for purchase or download online but the most important step is finding one that works best for you and your needs. Try incorporating these tips into your planning sessions so that they become more successful!
